Mazdaspeed3 Expected in 2016, AWD Possible
New details on a successor to the current Mazdaspeed3 are starting to emerge.
According to a recent report, Mazda will give its compact car an overhaul for the 2017 model year that will include new sheet metal in the second half of 2016. The model will also be underpinned by a revamped version of the carís current SkyActiv platform and will coincide with the return of the high-performance Mazdaspeed3 variant. It is likely that the new Mazdaspeed3 will be powered by a turbocharged 2.5-liter Skyactiv engine, which will make an appearance in the redesigned CX-9 launching the same year.

Rumor has it that the Japanese automaker might give the Mazdaspeed3 all-wheel drive, making it a possible competitor to the Suburu WRX STI and helping fill a void in the sports car market, especially now that the Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution is being killed. The company hasnít made an official announcement yet about the car, but a report from Automotive News suggests the powertrain in the new Mazdaspeed3 will make roughly 300 hp.
