Default Hello and could use some advice

Hi Mazda folks
Got a 2012 Mazda3 iTouring in November '11, just before the rollout of the Sky-Active model.
Trying to get clear about upcoming oil change.
The owners manual calls for SAE 0W-20, i see that in many posts here. But I don't see anywhere in the manual a reference to "conventional", "synthetic blend" or "synthetic".
My dealer says Mazda requires full synthetic (pricey!), I reached a tech support person at MazdaUSA and their answer was, as long as you stick to the prescribed interval and SAE rating, it doesn't matter whether you use synthetic, blend or whatever. Any second opinions out there?

Another question: owner's manual calls for oil changes at 7500. Did I read that right? Wouldn't that depend on the type of oil being used? Isn't synthetic supposed to last longer than the others?

Thanks all
Howie
