Correct Manual Transmission Fluid For 2007 Mazda 3 (2.3L)

My car is a 2007 Mazda 3s Touring with 2.3L and manual transmission. 135,000 miles

I've been pouring over threads concerning gear box oil/ manual transmission fluid and many recommend GL-4 75w90 for the transmission and GL-5 75w90 for the differential, is this correct?

Most state that GL-5 has additional additives that will cause smoother shifting at first, but eventually will cause gear wear. The owner's manual states that the gear box oil is "lifetime" and doesn't need to be changed, but that's not realistic. My local Mazda dealer's parts department only carries Maza branded GL-5 75w90 and they state that's the recommended fluid. They read the bottle and doesn't state whether it's non, partial, or full synthetic.

I want to change the MT fluid out soon, but hope to get clarification for this beforehand.

I tried the motorcraft fluid, that everyone rants and raves about last fluid change, and I wasn't impressed. I felt no difference whatsoever. As far as I know, that is a GL4 fluid. I've heard good things about the MT90 redline stuff. I'm going to give it a try next OCI. I'd stick with the GL4 if thats what is recommended for your gearbox.

Well, that's the issue because on one hand the manual says "lifetime" (no need to change) and on the other hand the local Mazda parts dept. only carries GL-5 and that's what is called for on this page: What Type of Transmission Fluid for Mazda 3. Capacity (under 2007 2.3L L3-VDT) but, many post on-line say GL-4 only, and most do recommend RedLine MT-90 full-synthetic.

I don't buy the lifetime fluid, I'm sure the engineers who say that have a good reason too, but its my car and I don't like the idea of it...and there's even more of a reason to use the MT90. Thankfully manual gearboxes aren't too picky

there is no thing in manual gear box (compared to automatic) but only iron. that's why we do not need to change fluid until we change clutch.

I don't know mazda3 needs differential fluid.

I changed manual gear box at 94k miles. the fluid was still good condition.

I used Red Line (50304) MT-90 75W-90 GL-4 Manual Transmission and Transaxle Lubricant.
