I agree with that observation. I like the snugger fit, makes it feel less cheap. Today im adding the blue LED spot lamp in the overhead console. Even easier than the armrest.

Can anyone confirm that the "leather" covered one is the sliding one? Also, how much farther forward does it go compared to the plastic one?

You have to order the armrest from the "s" model. If its a standard "s", its pvc & slides. If its a Grand Touring, either "s" or "i", its the so called leather sliding one. The part numbers in the beginning of this thread are good part numbers. The armrest slides forward until right before the e-brake when its in the up position. I posted pics earlier in the thread.

Excellent explanation. My car is an 'S'. I had the PVC sliding armrest and I swapped it for the leather-ish. Now have the original sliding one in a box in a closet. I was unaware that the i model ones didn't slide before this thread.

Glad some people found this useful! Maybe a mod can sticky this in a DIY section or index it somewhere.

Thanks to crf50racer and anto for getting the ball rolling on this upgrade! The install took about 5 minutes. Not sure how I like the sliding aspect of the armrest but the look and feel is a definite upgrade!

I'll markup some pictures.

Mine just arrived today. The padding alone is worth it!

Fixed PVC on left, sliding padded vinyl one on the right:

Ok, I'm about to buy this part from onlinemazdaparts, but there are about 10 options when I run that part number. Some specify vinyl/leather. Will any of those work? Do all the leather ones slide?

Just enter BCN7-64-450-02 into the part number lookup. That's what I did and I got the sliding padded vinyl/leather one.
