Default Vinyl Thoughts?

Yeah...I know this is the regular 3 section but it seems to get more hits than the Speed specific section so I'm posting here. Mods feel free to move if I'm out of line.

I'm currently toying with the idea of tacking on some vinyl to my car.

But not just any vinyl...I'm thinking full vinyl wrap in flat black. Granted, the door jambs and all the "unexposed" parts would still be black mica (this is a huge reason why I'm only thinking about it at this point) but i think it might look good. I love the flat black look.

It would go from looking like this:

To looking something like this:

Except a lot less "Audi-ish".

I'd probably wrap the smile in the same matte vinyl as well.

Supposedly the vinyl is good for seven years or so and will peel right off with no damage to the car's actual finish. It'll be a little pricey though. Not sure if I'd be up to DIYing it because of the time involved (though it'll definitely be A LOT cheaper to DIY).

Anyway, just looking for thoughts/opinions.

I think it will look awesome... A huge undertaking. One thought though if the vinyl get torn or banged changing the vinyl to get a clean look will be a task in itself.. But it would look awesome..

I love the flat black look!!!!! My only concern would be price, but I know this won't matter to my pocketbook! Please keep us all posted on this mod! I can't wait to see this happen!!!

Whoa...still in the pre-pre-planning stages...let's not get ahead of ourselves .

Considered repainting as well (since I could get the door jambs sprayed too) but we'll have to weigh the pros and cons of each and price will weigh heavily on whether or not I do it at all...but I have thought about it .

How dare you bring your speed3 hoopla into the non-speed section?!?!?!?!? Not only am I going to move this, you're getting a perma-ban Tinker!!!

Haha, just kidding. This isn't anything specific to the speed3, so I guess it can stay

Back on topic, I think it would look amazing. I really do wonder what the price difference would be between painting and full vinyl. Definitely something to consider.

Loving the color.....but share Haku's concern regarding the difficulty...especially with you wrapping the smile.....I'm cringing just thinking about it.

I would say enjoy your new paint and then when needed, just repaint the whole thing.

i have some flat black primer come to my house and we can have this done in about 3 hours :P

looks cool. very 'military' ish though... as we have flat green CB vehicles out here not to mention the forest manager park trucks.

btw you can wrap your door handles too. I watched west coast customs last night "road to SEMA" and the did a complete wrap on a prius. Interesting to watch them do it.... lots of re applying of the wrap.
