Did you use a filter wrench on that? I've seen a lot of stuff in my 21 years as a mechanic in the Army, but can't say I've seen someone do that.

yeah I was using a filter wrench putting it on with my oil filter sandwhich adapter plate and it snapped.

my car is undriveable until I get a new one. should be here monday.. or maybe tomorrow! since usps delivers on sat.

ouchy.. I was always told hand tighten and then a quarter turn..by hand...and to always use some new oil on the o-ring haha

I never use a wrench to put a filter on. All it takes is to turn on until gasket presses the housing, than turn 1/4 turn farther. This will also allow the old filter to come off easy at next oil change. I never have to use a wrench to take the filters off when I use this method. Still, I am surprised that it broke, unless you put a lot of torque on it.
