does anyone elses steering make whining noises?

at idle i can hear a loud whine everytime i move the steering wheel normal? also side question. does the engine make a slight knocking noise normally at idle? very slight but its noticable.

I think the steering whine is the electric pump at work. I hear it too. I don't hear the knock, but I usually have my music up fairly loud. I'll have to check it out.

I have not heard either of these problems. I will check it out today after work on my ride home!!!

I've noticed it, but it sounds like the typical power steering sound to me -- most noticeable when turning the wheel without moving. If my stereo is on, even slightly, I can't hear it.

yeah its only when not moving that i hear it.. the knocking noise is so slight but at idle if you walk to front of car the noise of the engine is not one continuous even sound, it is slightly un even witha very slight "tick" sound. is this like anyone else/?

When you hear the "ticking" sound, is it right after you start your car? If your engine is cold you can usually hear the valves ticking until everything warms up. Not sure if that is the ticking you are hearing, though.

Just got my 2010 mazda3 i touring auto back from mazda service. Replace power steering pump part BBM4-32-600D and gasket 9956-21-400 with only 455 miles. I only had it for a week but the car was manufactured in Feb 2009. My first mazda. Traded in 96 toyo 4-runner clunker with 275,000 miles.

I did not notice anything out of the ordinary yesterday after work, or this morning going to work. However, it was raining both times, I had the A/C on, and the windows up. I will check today to see anything since the rain stopped.

Just constant whining noise at 300 miles. Service tech say ok to drive while new pump on order. The pump came 2 days later.
