Default Window rattles, Trunk rattles...Please help

Hello Guys,

I have a 2010 Mazda 3 GT Hatch. Recently I've been experiencing extensive rattling of my windows when driving with them rolled about half way down. This mostly happens when driving on a stretch of rough/patchy road or whenever I switch lanes and my tires tires bump over those circular bumpy lane dividers on the street a couple of times. It's worse on the driver and passenger front side windows. It only happens with the windows rolled down half way, but not all the way down. I've never experienced this before on other vehicles I have driven. Took it to the dealer and they could not find problems, I was told my window regulators were intact. They car was test driven around the dealership but the roads there were pretty smooth, so could not recreate the problem exactly. I've also been experiencing more subtle rattle coming from the trunk, the dealer could not find a problem too. I was told to bring the car back if the problem continues, especially the side windows.

Anybody ever experience this stuff? Is this a common problem? Any comments/advice is much appreciated.

BTW: Any of you ever notice that with the front windows rolled down, you can move the windows back and forth if you grasp just at the tip and move it?

Thanks Y'all

Rattling windows is a very common problem. All the problems you describe about the windows are the same one's I have too. It's a Mazda 3 fail. Some people have posted good results complaining to the dealer and others have not. Your under warranty so I'd try to get them fixed at the dealer. I never bothered because I feel it's a design flaw and having the dealer pull the doors apart would make matters worse.

Yup, common rattles. The trunk rattle could be the cover bouncing around. Try removing it and driving, might be that. Also could be a loose jack, try and make sure the bolt holding that down is tight too. I carry a lot of crap (tools, charger, gym clothes, etc) in the back so it's always making some sort of noise so I don't even notice anymore.

Hmmm, I have a 2011 and everything is fine. I usually have my windows halfway down and it is very secure. I haven't come across any rattling yet. You guys above me have 2010's though, so that seems to be common.

I don't have the window rattle issue, nor the hatch cover one, but I have heard others have. Once in a while I hear some noise coming from the hatch area, but I ignore it as I have too much crap back there. My '07 I previously owned had a clunking noise from the rear. That really drove me crazy, but I found out that one was from the rear tie rod end bolt that came loose, and kept coming loose once in a while. My 2010 is good tho.

I do have the same problem having the windows rolled down even just a little bit. Just like warlord said, its probably a flaw on the design and having the dealer try to have a fix to it might make things worse.

I just try to ignore it. Still happy with the car though.

I am from Canada, have 2010 mazda3
I have the same issues (window and trunk) rattle and visited my dealer 1000 of times.
Trunk rattle noise is still there, they cant find it. It comes from the trunk lid upper side between plastic and metal part.

But for window rattle, they tried with replacing the window parts 2 times with no luck. later Mazda decide to change the whole door. But I didnt do that because of change in color(shine) with rest of the car.
its Scarboro Mazda toronto. you can ask your dealer to get the reference and replace the door.

just get the new door if they offer. If it's noticeably shiner then just clay bar and wax the car and the rest will be equally shinny Someone else here was having a trunk rattle. Search around and see if they fixed it.

heard the rattle in the window is caused by the window coming loose from holder or whatever. someone here had their window just fall off the track and the tech said it was a common problem for mazda.
