Default Skyactiv slighly low on oil at 3,500 miles?

Hi All,

I decided to check oil level in my MZ3 Skyactiv and noticed that the oil level dropped a little and is not where it was when the car had 2,000 milles (it was at full). Is it normal for a new engine to burn a little oil while everything breaks in and seats? Based on the attached image, how much am I low?

I did start revving the engine up a little more when I hit a 2,500 mile mark. I did have a few accelerations where I went to 5K RPM in 2nd, 3rd,and 4th gears - I figured the engine is already broken in at this point.

That looks fine. It's supposed to be between the two dots.

With the low 20w viscosity Mazda and other manufactures have been using, it's not uncommon to see some oil usage. It's a good idea to check your oil level every now and then and top off if needed.

that's not even low, anywhere in the range of those two dots is acceptable. and yea every engine eats oil, just some do more then others, esp break in with the piston rings, anyway just change your oil regularly and you will be good to go.

Thats a relief. I will keep watching it and will most likely do my first oil change at around 4K miles..First oil change is free at the dealer where I got the car.

I think first one is free for everyone who buys a new mazda.. was for me too. Oh and my car didn't stop consuming a noticeable amount of oil until like 5k miles.. it wasn't much, but noticeable.. it consume like none now though..

Thats what I am thinking as well - about the rings. Do you think the oil factory puts in is different/worse than the oil the dealer puts in? If that is the case, I should probably change mine now/next week and not wait till I hit my first 5K miles.

Every engine burns oil regardless of oil viscosity.
