K&N Air Filter Experiences?

Since a lot of people on this forum seem to be pretty into mods etc. does anyone have any experience with swapping out the factory air filter with a K&N air filter? I looked up one at Pep Boys today for the 2010 3 and its only like $45. I have read that it improves airflow, helps a little with acceleration, optimum HP and possibly even mileage. I have read that it is a good cheap 1st mod that one can do. Any experience with it?
