We don't have emissions in Michigan and how bad is the smell (for me or others outside vehicle)?

the smell isnt that bad. if your stopped at a light for a really long period of time it starts getting to me. but once im moving again it goes away quick. as for people outside the car, what does it matter? the volume of the exhaust is going to be much more bothersome.

Removing the cats will give you more boost so your fuel pump will will have to work harder. That means you need to upgrade your fuel pump for $350. Good thing if you planned on doing the pump upgrade . Bad if you didn't. What were you planning? Gutting the stock cats or going with a catless dp? Anyway if you want to run a stage 2 map the commanded fuel pressure is 1750 so pump internals are gonna be necessary for more power.

Go for it if you don't mind the smell. I decided to go with a catted dp because I like to drive with the windows down for a few months in the fall and spring. I didn't want to deal with that raw exhaust smell at traffic lights or when I warm my car up for a few minutes in the morning.

Cp-e catted dp @20% off for black friday is win (4BIRDS)! Everything about it is quality
http://www.cp-e.com/products/mazdasp...-3-ss-downpipe

Another option is the CNT catted dp but the fit isn't great. In addition to the stock dp being a bitch to get out the CNT had a flange bolt that doesn't line up quite right and adds extra greef to the install. But it's cheaper than most others!
http://www.cntracing.com/CNT_RACING_...dp-maz3-ct.htm

If you already have a race pipe then ultimate racing has downpipes that will mate to your racepipe so you save a little money. Plus they have a 20% off black friday sale going too (BLKFRI). It doesn't have a cast bellmoth like the Cp-e, CNT or Cobb though.
http://www.ultimate-racing.com/xcart...&cat=88&page=1

And then there's Cobb which is guaranteed win too. 100% quality product.
http://www.cobbtuning.com/products/?id=5905

You get what you pay for so weight your options.

I was really trying to get the cpe but it's still a little bit more than I have right now so I will just have to be patient it's getting pretty cold in Michigan now so pretty soon snow will come so I don't really need a dp right away
