How can I install heated side mirrors on 2012 Speed 3?

I know there have been some threads on the installation of heated side mirrors on the Speed 3. There appear to be some different set-ups from the factory. One of the threads said you had to run a wire and others say the wires are already there.

On my 2013 Speed 3 I pulled the cover that hides the tweeter and the connector going to the mirror. I do not have the tech package or the Bose. I was told the earlier 2012 build would not have the Bose but I thought it had the tweeter. Well, no tweeter! I did see five wires going to the mirror connector. It was a tight fit so I did not connect the plug to see if one of them energized when I flipped the rear defroster on. I have attached a picture.

Does any-one know if I can just replace the mirror with one containing the heating element without any additional wiring based on this information and the picture?

Also, should my car had the tweeter? TIA

I thought bose radio was standard for the speed since 2010? The mirrors should work. Is there any additional wiring behind the door panel it self that maybe just tucked away behind there?

Well I have a 2012 non-tech package speed3 and I have tweeters but not the BOSE system. I bought mine in Sept 2011 if it matters. I found three ways

1. The cheapest way is to buy the heated mirror for a mazda3(~$30 for each side) and run wires into the car and tap the wires on the door side of the connector.

2. Slightly more difficult way is to get pins and at them to the connector on the mirror side. This way would prevent having to take the door panel off the inside of the car.

3. Buy the whole mirror assembly from a grand touring mz3 minus the painted cap and that "should" be plug and play. I have not researched this method a whole lot.

I personally did the first method on mine, told a coworker about it and I proceeded to install heated mirrors in his speed in the loading dock at work in like half an hour. I will try to find the thread I used as a guide

Stupid question but if I have a Mazda 3, will the same apply? I really like the mirrors with the turn signal and defroster on them, but at the time I bought my car, I didnt have the money for the extra luxuries. Now I'm working on fixing that. If anyone knows, please help. Im new here and not sure where to post. exactly... I should add that I am not incompetent, I know how to take the panels off and access it. Should I just test my wiring harness to see if anything activates when the defrosters are on? Sorry again.

Thanks for the help and patience.

I just got a 2012 Speed with the tech package. It has the BSM system and after reading all 29 pages of the "adding heated mirror thread" from the regular MZ3 section I am still not sure if I can add the heating element to my car and retain the BSM and turn signals on the mirrors. Any ideas/help is much appreciated. I did the upgrade on my 2011 MZ3 so I know what entails in terms of the (potential) plug and play nature.

Well that complicates things a bit then. I think if you did the run wires and tap you could add the heated portion and retain the turn signals BUT i can't seem to find any mz3 mirrors that have both heat and BSM. You will need a mirror from a 2010-2013 mz3 or mz5 if that simplifies the search. You might be able to talk to the local dealership parts guy. It will be a lot easier for him to find something in his parts computer. Just don't give him your VIN, just tell him you are trying to find a heated & BSM mirror for either a mz3 or mz5 as long as it is within those years.
