Default Serpentine Belt Broken?

Guys i have 25 000 kms on my car and the belt suddenly got broken apparently because the pullew was loose, however i was driving highway when this happened, all the lights came on, the temperature light got red and flashing i think i overheated the engine. I drove around 5 mins in that conditions until i could pull over.

Do you guys think i have an engine damage? How long can you go without the belt running as all the components stop working?

Also, car is almost brand new, how the hell this happened?

It took you 5 minutes to find a place to pull over? Wow. Yeah, your engine could be fucked.

1. Your water pump and power steering stopped working the second the belt broke. It only takes less than a minute to overheat the engine once the water pump stops working. I'm guessing coolant boiled over on you.

2. Not sure. My car has 140K miles on the original belt. I inspect it every now and then and it still looks good.

Lights were on, but the coolant wasn't boiling, neither feeling super hot nor coming out any smoke.

Took it to the dealer and just the belt and the water pump were in trouble, car runs fine now. No idea what hell happened with the belt. 2011 speed3

No. It runs normally. Even after I pulled over was still running fine. But obviously I towed the car to the dealer we find out the belt fk up.

always a possibility of a warped head, maybe you dodge a bullet, maybe ... were you coasting for 5 minutes? Did the coolant light go red as soon as it snapped or after driving? cuz with todays cars, the coolant temp sensor reads hot at like 250+degrees.. which is warpage temps..

I would at least get a coolant flush, get some fresh stuff, change the oil, and take it easy and listen for weird noises. also if there is more pressure then normal in your coolant system it could be a blown head gasket / cracked head / cracked blockeven with no other signs ( coolant in oil, oil in coolant )

Sounds like you're ok then. If the coolant didn't boil over then it didn't get that hot.

Water pump probably failed and had free play from the bearing causing the belt to ride off it.

glad it turned out well, could have been bad. suprisingly though i changed my belt at 50k and it was barely cracking. I actually kept mine just in case.
