2010 Mazda 3 sport

I searched the forums but didn't quite find the answer to my problem.

I have a 2010 mazda 3 sport (4 door sedan, 2.0)

A few months back I noticed I had lost some MPG - not sure total, but I was getting 400+ but now i'm hitting empty at 350.

At the time I replaced my plugs and air filter, (ngk iridium's) but I'm still not back up to where I should be. I thought maybe it could be my O2 sensor but after looking up some videos I am not so sure. My car doesn't idle rough, it's firing just fine, and I have no Check Engine light.

I'm at a loss. I just don't know what it could be.

I am not running my AC/Heat, My tires are properly inflated (have them at 38 right now) and also I ALWAYS use cruise control. The majority of my driving comes from me going to and from work on the highway (very minimal stoplights). I set cruise to 60 and hit it all the way to the house.

Anyone have some insight as to what the problem might be

Also - I hope this is the right section of the forums to be posting this. Sorry if I'm in the wrong spot. Thanks gentlemen.

Moved to the MZ3 engine section.

Did you clean your MAF sensor when you replaced the air filter?

Actually I did not. I will need to look where that even is. I was trying to find out where the fuel filter is but I guess those are in the fuel tank on these and aren't really a scheduled maintenance item.

One thing I did notice. Sometimes, my engine will be trying to turn over but then it will take a while to actually crank. I thought maybe it was the fuel filter or injectors. I've already run fuel injector cleaner (back then when i originally noticed) and then yesterday I used transmission fluid and drove for an hour and a half.

Is the MAF Sensor in there near the air filter?

Yes, the MAF sensor is next to the air filter housing. It's squarish looking and held in by a couple of small screws. You'll need to buy MAF cleaner to get the dust off the sensor. It's very delicate and you'll be SOL if you muck it up.

I have a 2010 Mazda 3 s sport gt and I am also having the problem of it turning over to long. I have the pushbutton start and I will push the button and then it takes a really long time turning over and sometimes it's stalls. This does not happen every time, just sometimes. Let me know if you have any luck at finding a solution to this.

In winter with a 6 year old battery the car will take longer to start. Get the battery checked and replaced if needed. If the battery or even the starter aren't the culprits and you have performed the routine maintenance, then you have a bigger problem elsewhere. Also you can use electrical contact cleaner to clean the MAF, i believe it's less expansive than dedicated MAF cleaner and comes in smaller sizes.

What do you mean by used transmission fluid? Did you put it in your gas tank??

Yes my car has had all of its routine maintenance. It is very well taken care of. The battery is less than two years old. I am going to try the suggestions though. Thanks!
