2012 Mazda 3 SKYACTIV General Discussion

Well, it has finally made it here. My factory ordered Skyactiv with a 6 speed manual. Its date of birth is February 3, 2012. I had the spoiler and the fog lights installed at the port of entry and the side skirts were installed at the dealership. 35% tint was done by Ziebart and it looks amazing. Just wanted to share some pics for all the Mazda enthusiasts.

I've been driving it for a few days now and all I can say is that this car is amazing! It takes corners like a champ. The acceleration from 1st to 2nd gear is a little sluggish, but could be for a few reasons : 1) I am afraid to push it during break in period; 2) Mazda's acceleration is directly correlated with how much you push the gas pedal (and it probably needs to be pushed a little for it to really go).

The engine is a little loud during the first cold start up but it goes away in literally 15 seconds and becomes very very quite. Not a big deal at all.

If you also have a SKYACTIV, share your photos, experiences, and feedback about the car here.
This thread will now be used to talk about all your general Skyactiv questions

The side skirts were a very good decision on your part.

Definitely. I saw them on a few other cars on this forum and they really do add to the overall look of the car. Now I just need some mud flaps that fit with the skirts; ordered some on ebay and will see if they actually fit.

Looks good! How much did the side skirts cost? I have a 2012 3i GT SKYACTIV hatch. I was thinking about getting fog lights installed on mine too. The tint looks good too. I've been thinking about getting tint as well, but I'm afraid of the cops haha. PA has the dumbest tint laws (no tint is allowed).

Just did a exhaust on one Friday. Sounds good on them. Customer wanted to keep the cats on the cars, it was real quite but had a nice tone to it.

No tint law?! Yeah, that's a dumb law. I went slightly over the legal limit in Ohio (50%). The side skirts cost me 600 and that included installation.

Exhaust would be nice too but may have to wait till later.

Yeah PA sucks. The law has a double standard... vans, trucks, and SUVs can legally paint their back windows black, but cars can have no tint whatsoever! I'm thinking about taking my chances and getting 35% all around or 35% on the driver and passenger windows and 20% in the back. My friend just got 35/25 and hasn't gotten pulled over yet...

Thanks for responding with the price of the side skirts. I might get some quotes from nearby dealers and get them installed when I hit my 5000 mile service. I'd probably get the fogs installed then too.

Is you SKYACTIV a 6 speed manual or automatic? Just curious. I have a manual and I've been reading that some people have had problem with their manuals not going into gear; mine did that a little but I think it's a matter of just breaking it in and smoothing out the gear channels because I noticed that it started getting better in shifing( smoother)
