Thanks! I changed my oil tonight. I bought 5 quarts of Mobil 1 0W-20 synthetic at Walmart but only put 4 in like you did. It was pretty funny... I paid $6.47 / quart at Walmart and went to Advanced Auto afterward to pick up ramps and noticed that their price was $8 something per quart. Walmart definitely is cheaper haha. I'm going to check the level tomorrow. The oil change went well, no leaks, new OEM filter matched. My oil was pretty dark at 3535 miles (5 months).

Oil gets black pretty quickly....hard to judge life based on color. Glad you went ahead and ordered the 5-pack. $8/filter is pretty cheap for OEM parts imo.

Yeah I agree. The dealers around here are ridiculous. Everything seems so much cheaper online haha.

I don't know if anyonelse had heard this but my dealership told me that the MS3 cannot use full synthetic because it eats up the turbo.

Hmmmmm.... They said they wouldn't do it because they had issues with the turbos in the CX-7 and 9s

My dealer happily uses full synthetic when I get my oil changed there. I can possibly understand why rotaries would have trouble with it, but I don't see how a piston engine, even a turbo, would have any negative reaction to full synth.

Also, I have found an oversized oil filter application for our motors. The Fram cross reference for the stock filter is the PH6607, with the following specs (wixfilters.com):

Height: 2.577
Outer Diameter Top: 2.685
Outer Diameter Bottom: Closed
Thread Size: 20X1.5 MM
By-Pass Valve Setting-PSI: 8-11
Anti-Drain Back Valve: Yes
Beta Ratio: 2/20=2/20
Burst Pressure-PSI: 300
Max Flow Rate: 9-11 GPM
Nominal Micron Rating: 21

Gasket Diameters
Number O.D. I.D. Thk.
Attached 2.475 2.173 0.233

Now, here are the numbers for a WIX 51356 (Purolator 14610):

Height: 3.402
Outer Diameter Top: 2.685
Outer Diameter Bottom: Closed
Thread Size: 20X1.5 MM
By-Pass Valve Setting-PSI: 8-11
Anti-Drain Back Valve: Yes
Beta Ratio: 2/20=6/20
Burst Pressure-PSI: 363
Max Flow Rate: 9-11 GPM
Nominal Micron Rating: 21

Gasket Diameters
Number O.D. I.D. Thk.
Attached 2.475 2.173 0.233

As you can see, all the gasket dimensions, filter OD, bypass PSI and flow rate are the same, but the filter is taller by almost an inch. Oversized = slightly more oil capacity & more filter media. Beta ratio is filtration efficiency (not sure how to calculate it). I put the Purolator PureOne PL14610 on my car and it fits fine with the Fumoto. The nipple is partially blocked, but you would just remove the filter before draining the oil.

Interesting. What's the difference between the F-106 and F-106L? Any issues with it leaking or anything?

Good to know there are alternative oil filters available. I already bought a 5 pack of the OEM ones, but that's nice to know.
