Default 2012 Mazda 3 sky Oil change

I despise taking my car into a dealership or an oil change place. With my old car, I took it into these places for a couple of years until noticing a small leak. Come to find out they butchered my oil pan bolt letting a small leak out. So now I perform all my oil changes myself, which is high satisfying anyway.

The 2012 Mazda sky needs 0-20 Full Syn oil. I was wondering where you guys buy your oil and roughly what price? I'm not due for another change for another 2500 miles but I like to be prepared haha.

Walmart sells Mobil1 0W-20 in 5 quart jugs for about $26. I've heard that not all stores carry the jugs but their website will show you whether stores in your area do or not. About a month ago I checked at Advance Auto and they still didn't have a listing for the oil filter for the 2012 Skyactiv, but I did find them on this website: Genuine 2012 Mazda 3 with SKYACTIV® TECHNOLOGY Oil Filter

My first oil change will be free at my dealership. After that I'll be changing my own oil using the Mobil1 and whatever filter seems to be good at the time.

Mobil1 0w20 at Walmart in Franklin, TN runs $27.68 for a 5-qt. jug. Single quarts (for the .3) is a little under 6 bucks.

I have a 2011 MZ3 and it required the 0w20 as well, I used 5 qts of Castrol EDGE full synthetic, with K&N filter it was total of $32, -$7 rebate made it $25, so it was a good deal, oil is holding up nicely at 2500miles since change.

I bought a case of Redline 0w20 from Racer Parts Wholesale - Racing Parts, Safety Equipment & Motorcycle Accessories. I'll change it at home once the 2012 Skyactiv 3 reaches 1200 miles or so.

Royal purple 5w20 will do the job. and these engines dont REQUIRE 0w20. I run 5w20 royal purple in my car that "requires 0w20" without any issue. Royal purple is the only oil I trust.

I know you are meaning to be nice, but yes, they DO REQUIRE 0w20 oil, especially on the Skyactiv engines. The tolerances are so much tighter on that engine that our MZR 2.5. As such it necessitates for the use of not only synthetic oil, but 0w20. Mazda has already engineered the 2.0 Skyactiv engine to account for any oil dilution.

Yea, to be safe, I just get the correct oil as the car specifies, then you can pick your brand

How do you change your oil without having warranty issues? I know some people suggest keeping receipts for doing oil changes but what about if you're doing it yourself? How do you prove it? Thanks!
