Let's hope this feature isn't just on the 6, not sure if the system is common between the 3 and 6, I've heard it may have a faster processor?

Incidentally I think the processor in the CMU is a 486, it's about that slow.

Let's hope it will be free too... Remember Mazda is charging over $500 only for a SD with navigation...

And i don't really think there's much difference between the 6 CMU And the 3 because it takes about the same amount of time to do normal tasks on both CMU's
I think they will sell a SD with the software inside as Hyundai or KIA (don't remember wich models) did.

Hopefully Android Auto will follow soon. Correct me if I'm wrong, but my understanding is that the phone does most of the work for AA while the head unit does most of it for CarPlay. So I would think that AA would be easier to implement.

You're right, CarPlay and AA runs directly on the phone, the CMU only works as an external screen with obviusly some apple and android tweaks to work correctly.

Some time ago there was a jailbreak tweak that let you run CarPlay on the phone directly for those that didn't had a screen on their cars.

I don't think you'll see it until anytime soon. The 2017's are coming out soon and they too don't have it. It's scheduled for the 2018 re-design - which is coming out early next year (short production run on the 2017's).

Both are using the phones. The head unit is not doing much other that showing the screen.

how do you know this? what is "early next year" exactly? I've waited for the 2017 3 because of the G-Vectoring & possible CarPlay. if I should wait until the 2018, let me know man!
