Mazda 3 2017 Road / Engine Noise

I'm considering buying a new Mazda 3 2.0 Petrol Sport Nav Fastback (UK model) which has the low profile tyres on 18" wheels. The updated Mazda 3 claims to have improved sound insulation. What do owners of the revised Mazda 3 think of the levels of road and engine noise? Has there been a significant improvement?

I found this recent UK report on Mazda road noise Does the new Mazda 3 suffer from road noise? | Ask Honest John | Honest John

Honest John is considered a reliable UK car review site without the German bias all too common on car review sites.

I have a '17 GT hatch. Road noise is not an issue, IMO. All reviews that addressed this point have agreed that the noise level improvement was excellent, and significant.

Garage
Not an issue for me. I can't relate to pre-facelift but it's definitely a whole lot better than my '10 was. No complaints here.

Someone who comes from a higher end car or who regularly sits in higher end cars may have a different opinion, but this is an economy car after all - albeit a damn nice one.

I found that a lot of the so called road noise in my 2016 3 was caused by the cheap tires fitted by Mazda. New tires fixed almost all of that noise.

I can't compare to the old model but road noise at 80mph on the freeway does not seem to bother me at all.

Interesting. Looks very similar to OEM Dunlop 5000. Half of the asymmetrical pattern is almost identical. Surprised it's a lot more quiet. Maybe it's the rubber itself vs. the tread pattern?

Can't comment about road noise in the 2017, but the 2016 both 2.0 and 2.5 have little to no engine noise except for the unpleasant "whirr" of the 2.5 if you rev it too much on takeoff. It's much more pleasant to have an exhaust growl on a little over rev like on the Miata, but I like not having the noise while cruising.

To me, road noise in the 3 is the same as what it was on the Jetta.

Thanks for your replies. Owners of the 2017 Mazda 3 report no road/engine noise in the above posts yet I'm still reading conflicting car reviews - some say the Mazda 3 is a quiet refined car but others still mention excessive road noise in the 2017 model.

Are there any difference in road noise between the 16" and 18" wheels?
