Default 2011 Mazda 3 Problem

Hello all, new to the forum. I have a 2011 Mazda 3s Hatch I bought brand new less than a year ago. I had all oil changes done at the dealer to keep a great record "just in case". I'm happy I did that. I checked my oil the other day and noticed it was at the absolute minimum. I'm using dealer 0w-20. So I go to the dealer, they check it out, say there are no leaks, PCV is functioning well and everything is ok but the motor was two quarts low. They said that Mazda 3's in general that use 0w-20, burn oil and that this is normal, about a quart every 1000 miles. They put 5 quarts in the last time they changed the oil. I call Mazda, they say go to another dealer. I am going there on Friday for phase 1 of a compression test. Anyone have this issue, is this normal in new cars? My old Maxima never burned any oil and that was an older car. Please provide me with any info that might help. I think the dealer is just avoiding to do the work.

If you have been to the dealer, have the records, and have contacted Mazda, and THEY recommended another dealer, listen to them. They really do try to help their owners.

Thanks guys, I hope they do. I bought the car brand new and now I feel worried. Any of you guys have an issue like this where they say it is normal for a car to mysteriously burn oil?

Sounds to me like the dealer might have messed up when doing the last oil change. These are high compression engines and they dont burn that much that fast. Good to know your going to another dealer. Our cars take 4.35 qts Im pretty sure but here at my work we put 4.5 qts. The only way even close to possible to burn that fast was if you were really hard on the engine constantly

I drive slow actually, I baby every car I have ever owned. They said rotary motors and turbo mazda 3's burn a lot of oil, but as far as my car is concerned (2011 mazda 3s 2.5L) 1000-1200 miles per quart of burning oil is normal. I am worried that there is a problem that they are just too lazy to investigate. I hope the second dealer does a better job. Anyone have a similar issue with their car?

I thought the 2011 Mazda 3 2.5 takes 5.3 quarts per oil change? Thats what others on this post claim. Was that incorrect?

Yes its incorrect most of all the mazdas except for speeds, 6 cyl, or mx-5 and maybe few others which i cant think they take 4.35 or something like that. All I can tell you is I work at the dealership and we always put 4.5 qrts

Great, thanks for the info. Since you work at the dealer, in your opinion what do you think the issue with my motor is being that it seems it burns oil??

Why would the dealer tell me that it is normal for a regular 4cyl car to burn oil at that rate?
