If I like the styling and they can get a speed? / sporty version with over 200 HP and I'm in a position to sell mine maybe I'll do it. Not cutting corners and going top end if I can help it. Hoping for the best from new tech.

Mazda should give up research of internal combustion engines. they should improve hybrid and electric engine for future. the competitive companies gain ground they have studied about electric and hybrid engine technologies for many years therefore I haven't seen any studies by mazda. studyin about internal combustion engine is waste of time.

Just a thought, why are they using a 2016 3 in the article? Should have been a 17 or one of the concept photos floating around.

It's not an 'either/or' decision. Mazda cannot afford to fall behind in existing technology; nor can it afford to passively overlook an imminent future shift to newer technologies.

The internal combustion engine will continue to represent the majority of the marketplace for most of the foreseeable decade ahead.

Mazda IS aggressively doing R&D on its planned EV and PHEV models which it will launch in 2-3 years, while still being proactive in maintaining its leadership role/forte to extend the competitive lifespan of its ICE products.

It looks like all these articles are based on the same report from Nikkei Asian Review. Considering HCCI is such a huge advancement in engine technology, I find it a bit hard to believe that it would be production-worthy in a year without a single public demo or prototype.

^^^ Agree. it sounds like the challenges with the technology are non-trivial as well.
