Lame. I saw that too.! I prefer a boosted awd hatch and not a sport car. If I had the finance to pay for two cars for two purposes yes but financially I would prefer a practical cars with some ump.

I'm a little disappointed Mazda only unveiled the CX-9 (damn good looking SUV). I thought for sure they'd be unveiling a refreshed 2017 MZ3 too (and maybe an awesome Speed3 as well). Now I'm interested to know if they're even planning a refresh the MZ3 for 2017. The L.A. Auto Show is, like, THE show to unveil new stuff. Not sure what other show they'd choose to unveil such a product...

Interested to see if they have any news in Q1 or Q2 2016...

Mazda already had a press about this. They dont have the budget to work on the Speed/MPS variant and that is in the backburner while they refresh their ful Lineup and bring back the RX. We probably wont see anything for at least 2 years.

Just pulling in a bunch of non-related things to make a conclusion about the new speed:

CX5 uses a similar body/frame, but the tunnel for the AWD transmission is much much larger than the 3. So an AWD Speed3 isn't likely using the current body style. IF it's going to be AWD, it's going to have to be pretty heavily modified version of the gen3.

The engine is good news, though. I think, with a more performance oriented tune, the 320HP figure quoted from the article on the main page is easily doable. I haven't spent enough time looking at the space behind my engine to guess if there's enough room for the turbo setup the CX9 has in there, but I have to imagine they were planning the new CX9 while designing the gen3 MZ3 so its possible it'll all fit in there and be a part of a new Speed3. I can't imagine them developing something else for that application.

So i saw a CX3 right next to my car. I have to admin the damn CX3 is beautiful..... very beautiful. Now thinking about the new CX3 is AWD and the skyactiv platform is compatible with everything else. Would it be possible to put the CX9 engine into an AWD CX3?

I agree. I saw a blue cx3 at the dealer and I really like that color. If it had the 2.5 in it I would be all over that car.

Lovin the CX3 myself. But the lack in power killed it. Bigger engine option would of been sold.

Still waiting on that new speed......
