When my lease is up on the '14, I HOPE to jump right into a new Speed3...

That's my 'best case scenario' - at least.

(And maybe, just maybe, my wheels/suspension will transfer right over)

with existing strategy out there, 2.5t doesnt make sense. Plus AWD? that's beyond affordable now. If Mazda is 100% fine tuning their usable power in lightweight (skyactiv) car building philosophy, they wont go that torque steering route again.

with the sti returning with 2.5, it almost has the connotation of old and inefficient. and why sell 2.5t at 2.0t price? Ford can squeeze 300hp from the 2.3, do t you think 2.5 could do a bit more?

As to how they will spec the car, that be interesting to see.

But whatever rumor is out there, doesnt sound right.

2.5T makes sense when you think about the fact that they should be releasing a new CX-7 around the same time and it will need a powerful engine, that is more efficient than a V6, aka... turbo 2.5L. Then they will most likely just use that for a torquey Mazdaspeed 3.

I have to admit that I was a die hard gen2 person when I had mine. I couldn't stand the look of the gen3's. It was absolutely the ugliest thing I had ever seen. (Except for those crappy mustangs -yuck-) But once I had to start considering the possibility of having one since my gen 2 was totaled, the look actually kind of grew on me. I had the option of snatching up a MS3 or a gen2 mz3 that didn't have many miles on them, but the nice added features of the gen 3's kind of drew me in. I guess the look grew on me cause I didn't have much option when it came to getting rid of my old car. But I was a little crushed when I found out that they currently don't make that MS3's. Maybe next time? HAHA

I agree 100%....it better not look like a regular 3, It needs to show it's aggressive side and aero body.

with Mazda's recent involvement with Toyota/Lexus, i'd almost believe the turbo is sourced from them.

2.0t.

why not? just look at Scion IA.

I shopped the Mercedes CLA and Lexus ct hatch before pulling the trigger on a $28,000 non speed 3. The gen 3 3's have matured a lot, and definitely stand apart from the other cars in its class.
I agree.

Mazda really needs to get something like this out. A hyper geeked out version of the current 3 to serve as a benchmark of sorts. To showcase what the chassis is capable of. 320 HP AWD would be blistering in a light car like this. Issue would be pricing, as if it costs more than a Golf R, there could be less incentive to get one. Still, to serve as a flagship model, it would serve the 3 nameplate well.

And to those commenting on the original pic. That's obviously just a standard fare 3. A Mazdaspeed version would obviously be beefed up externally.

The thing is they also need something more powerful for the upcoming CX-9 as well, 184 hp is definitely not enough and the chances of the diesel coming here are literally zilch since they can't even get the Mazda6 diesel here. Even if they did, how many would go for it. One downside of going turbo four is that they're going to be on boil more often in larger cars, which isn't good for fuel economy.

That Toyota partnership has probably been going on well before the announcement especially when you take a look at the Scion iA. On the plus side, they can source a turbo-4 from Toyota and a V-6. Heck, the revised V-6 on the 2016 RX, which now has direct injection, 300 hp and runs of regular gas smells like Mazda had a hand in making its developing/revising it (possible Skyactiv V-6?). Wouldn't be surprised if that or a turbo-four ended up in a Mazda in the future. Considering their anti-turbo stance for petrol engines right now though, a six pot may be more likely.

For the MS3 though, a turbo-four is a must to keep it light.

I've been waiting for an AWD option!
Not sure about the larger engine, but that AWD sounds great to me
