Mazdaspeed3 Rumored for 2016 with 320 HP, AWD

The 2014 Mazda3 was chosen as AutoGuide.coms 2014 Car of the Year, so what can we expect from the sportier Mazdaspeed3?

Rumor has it that the Mazdaspeed3 will make its debut in 2016 sporting a turbocharged 2.5-liter SkyActiv gasoline engine with up to 320 hp. According to Australian CarsGuide, the new Mazdaspeed3 will come with all-wheel drive along with a six-speed manual transmission.

The Japanese automaker denies the rumors of a turbocharged SkyActiv engine, since those powerplants run a high compression ratio to enhance fuel economy and performance. Typically speaking, forced induction on a high compression motor is bad news. But the unnamed source said that Mazda has solved the issue and will be following the hot hatch competition with turbocharged motors.

Yeah but it won't have 320HP when it comes to America...they always get the good stuff overseas.

Just in time for a trade in, love it if it is true!

Man that is the most boring looking "hot hatch" I've even seen. I wouldn't buy it on looks alone.

If it looks anything like the 2014+ 3's I will be passing for sure. The 3 hatchback has a Mazda 6 front with a cx5 looking rear. The sedan just looks like a mini 6 IMO.

The2014 3 hatch has a 6 front end and a cx5 looking rear end. The sedan 3 just looks like a mini version of the 6 IMO. I will wait to see what they do in 2020 LOL.

Agreed on all points. But there is a rumor of some sheetmetal changes for 2017, so we might not have to wait that long.

Surprised to see you all hating on the design of the current 3.

I spend most of my time on the 2014/15 Mazda 3 forum, so don't know what the older Mazda owners think. However, everyone I have seen, not only on this site, but across the internet, absolutely love the new design.

I think it looks great too. You're all entitled to your opinions but why the dislike?

1. It will only share the same frame as the 3, as always it will have wider fenders (at least in front), different bumpers hood etc.
2. 320hp is probably only what AUS and North America see. No one else gets the fast cars like we do. Keep in mind, finding a 2.0L 3 outside of the US/AUS is quite a challenge as that's the high powered version.

3. Is everyone well convinced enough that it will have an AWD system that I said it would have before the BM was even around...? Or are people still going to not believe the obvious at this point.

I doubt it will have the 320HP once it comes here...North America cars usually get de-tuned or too many emissions restrictions.
