Question 16x7.5 Wheels + 225x50x16 Tires?

I have a 2009 Mazda 3 GT and looking to change the wheels/tires.

From:
Wheels - 17x6.5 (OEM - 52.5mm offset)
Tires - 205/55/17 (Dunlop Sport Signature)

To (Option 1):
Wheels - 16x7.5 (Konig Interflow - 45mm offset)
Tires - 225/50/16 (Continental ExtremeContact DWS)
or
Tires - 205/55/16 (Continental PureContact with ECOplus Technology)

To (Option 2):
Wheels - 16x7 (Enkei M52 - 45mm offset)
Tires - 205/55/16 (Continental PureContact with ECOplus Technology)

Will either of these changes address the following issues listed below? I'm concerned with how the 225/50/16 tires will look since they might have too much sidewall bulge/balloon on 16x7.5 wheels. Likewise 205/55/16 tires on 16.75 wheels might look a bit too stretched. So if anyone has experience and/or photos with those two setups it would be great to hear from you. Of course any other advice and/or suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

1) Pothole Protection - I live in the north east and the OEM 17" wheels have gotten bent 3 times in the past 6 years (inner rim lip).

2) Less Jar/Impact - Hitting potholes with the OEM 17" wheels is pretty jarring. I realize the suspension has a role in this as well and will be replacing front/rear struts when I change the wheels/tires. I'll also be adding rear camber arms but not because of fast tire wear but because of tire noise caused by overly aggressive OEM fixed camber settings.

3) Hard Start Slippage - I have a 5 speed stick and experience hard start tire slippage at times even when my all season tires where new. If I go to a 225/50/16 tire I would imagine the additional contact patch will help or eliminate this issue.
