Here’s a rough idea of what your costs will be:

Drive Belt = $18
A/C Belt Kit = $64

Total Cost: $82

Note: You have to replace the a/c belt when you change the drive belt and the dealer makes you buy the kit which come with two jigs! Just buy it once, save the kit and then get the a/c belt at an auto parts store in the future.

A/C Drive Belt

1. Remove the engine under cover and splash shield (RH).

2. Cut the A/C drive belt using scissors. (See illustration below.)

3. Install a jig (A) to the crankshaft pulley as shown in the figure below.

Note: The jig is prepackaged with a new A/C drive belt.

4. Install a new A/C drive belt to the A/C compressor pulley, move jig (A) upward, and then install the A/C drive belt to the crankshaft pulley.

5. Install jig (B) to the A/C compressor mount as shown in the figure below.

Caution: The A/C drive belt cannot be reused.

Note: Do not pass jig (B) through the A/C compressor mount hole.

6. Rotate the crankshaft pulley to the right using a wrench and install the A/C drive belt.

7. Install the under cover and splash shield (RH).

Generator Drive Belt

1. Remove the plug hole plate.

2. Remove the A/C drive belt.

3. Turn the center of the auto tensioner pulley counterclockwise to release tension to the drive belt tension.

4. Remove the generator drive belt.

5. Install a new generator drive belt.

6. Install the A/C drive belt.

7. Install the plug hole plate.

That’s all there is to it! Remember, if you have any questions at all, leave a comment below or join our forums to discuss this guide with other Mazda 3 drivers.
