2010 Mazda 3 Hatchback - Official Photos!

Posted on 25. Nov, 2008 by DeuxEx3 in Mazda3 Guide, What's Hot

The cladding is off and the 2010 Mazda 3 hatchback has been revealed! The 2010 Mazda 3 hatchback will offer many of the same options as the 2010 Mazda 3 sedan with a couple of notable differences. First, the only engine choice for the hatchback model will be the 2.5-liter 167-hp motor found in the 2010 Mazda 3s sedans.

Also, the exterior design has been toned down from the sedan’s aggressive, swooping lines in the front end. Instead, the 2010 Mazda 3 hatchback flows with taillights that wrap around the rear corners and a bumper design that features more traditional elements from the first generation Mazda 3. The hatchback will make its official debut at the Bologna Motor Show on December 3rd.

Official Press Release From Mazda

ALL-NEW 2010 MAZDA3 5-DOOR TO MAKE WORLD DEBUT AT 2008 BOLOGNA MOTOR SHOW

IRVINE, Calif., Nov. 25, 2008 - Mazda Motor Corporation will showcase the world premiere of the all-new 2010 MAZDA3 5-Door at the Bologna Motor Show on December 3, 2008. The launch of the MAZDA3 5-Door follows on the heels of the debut of the 4-Door sedan, which made its world premiere at the current Los Angeles Auto Show.  The all-new MAZDA3 5-Door adopts the same characteristics as its sedan counterpart, offering sporty driving and dynamic design, together with top-class environmental and safety performance.

The all-new MAZDA3 is available with key features typically not seen in its class including:

  • Bluetooth hands-free phone and audio
  • Adaptive front-lighting system and Bi-Xenon headlights with auto leveling
  • Advanced keyless entry system
  • Push-button start

All 2010 MAZDA3 5-Door models will be equipped with the newly developed 2.5L engine, shared with the MAZDA3s 4-Door and MAZDA6i.  The 2.5L engine found in the MAZDA3 produces 167 horsepower and 168 lb.-ft. of torque.

The new 2.5L engine, as well as the 2.0L engine also available on the MAZDA3i 4-Door sedan, features the world’s first vehicle catalyst to be constructed with single nanotechnology, which controls even finer material structures than nanotechnology. This new development enables Mazda to reduce its use of scarce resources such as platinum and palladium. Environmental qualities were top of mind during vehicle development, including efficient powertrains and aerodynamics that place the MAZDA3 amongst the best in class.

The all-new MAZDA3 5-Door will be revealed during Mazda’s press conference at 9:00 a.m. on December 3, 2008 (local time).

Headquartered in Irvine, Calif., Mazda North American Operations oversees the sales, marketing, parts and customer service support of Mazda vehicles in the United States, Canada and Mexico through nearly 900 dealers.  Operations in Canada are managed by Mazda Canada, Inc., located in Ontario, Canada, and in Mexico by Mazda Motor de Mexico in Mexico City.

what happened the twin tail pipes like the sedan?? Mazda might have dropped the ball on this one, since the hatch is more sportier anyways…. I hope they make the Speed with dual pipe and pedal shifters.

I'm wondering this as well but I suspect the photos are deceiving on the U.S. exhaust setup because the photos are of the European 2.2-Liter diesel Mazda 3 hatchback. There is still a possibility that the U.S. model will get a dual exhaust.

Generally good design but awfull front end bumper.

Hmmm….. interesting, I hope that's the case… otherwise it'd be injustice to the hatch. I hope they really spice it up in the Speed, but I'm really looking forward to the pedal shifters.

Well, I wouldn't say awful, but definitely not as aggressive as the 4dr, I hope they address that in the Speed. Compare to Honda, Mazda definitely has the design edge, the new Civic looks like a frog with its mouth wide open.

Me too. I bought a 2008.5 Mazda 3s GT sedan in June. If I knew they were going to release it so soon I would have waited. Oh well, I guess I can wait a few years to get the new one. :)
