More 2010 Mazdaspeed 3 Spy Shots

The quick snapping photo team over at Global Motors [via AutoMedia] snagged more new pictures of the 2010 Mazdaspeed 3 ripping around the Nürburgring track in Germany. While there isn’t much that has changed since yesterday’s slew of spy shots, the new photos are much sharper and you can see the new Mazdaspeed wheels in better detail.
Global Motors also went on record to confirm that the 2010 Mazdaspeed 3 will be powered by the current Mazdaspeed 3’s 2.3L four cylinder and expect its horsepower numbers to remain about the same.
This is in stark contrast with what was reported by numerous other automotive media outlets including Motor Trend and Autoblog yesterday who all stated the Mazdaspeed 3 will most likely use the new 2.5L four cylinder (plus turbo) found in the 2010 Mazda 3 or a Volvo sourced T5 powerplant. Regardless of the source of the engine, the predicted output for the new Mazdaspeed 3 remained pretty consistent at about 300 hp.

Hopefully, the 2010 Mazdaspeed 3 will feature the motor from the upcoming Focus RS. Mazda confirmed that the engines will be the 2.0L and the 2.5L 4 cylinder. The 2.5L turbo of about 300 hp with the Ford RevoKnuckle FWD suspension will be able to control all that power.

Probably only a rumour but a dealer told me he heard that Mazda was considering a awd system in the Mazdaspeed 3 but cost and weight were issues that would probably nix that possibility. That would be awesome if it did happen.

Too bad the horsepower stated above at 167 for the 2.5 litre is true. I was told 185 by my dealer and that was a real selling point for me. I hope 167 is not true –can anyone confirm this?

Panjjj, there hasn't been an announcement about the 2010 Mazdaspeed 3 from Mazda yet but based on Mazda's past with the Mazdaspeed series we expect it to be manual only.
