For those that have replaced their factory radio with aftermarket ones that have bluetooth. Do the aftermarket ones eliminate the annoying Bluetooth Buffer?

I've used dozens of Bluetooth audio devices from other makes of cars to portable radios to headphones and I have never had an issue with audio dropout.

And it's annoying when changing tracks and not knowing if it worked for 5 to 10 seconds. And it is especially annoying when using navigation on my phone. As a result of the buffer instructions are delayed by a significant amount. Enough of a delay to cause an issue when in an unfamilar area.

BT Buffer

I have an iPad, iPhone 3G, iPod Touch, and a Sprint/HTC EVO all as options for my radio. I would say that the delays seem to be heavily on the end of the device, and not so much on the Radio. Also, it is important to note that only since 4.2 of Apple's iOS, have they used the correct BT Profile that enables the "Tech Package" radio with BT to use the radio and wheel controls to advance and go back tracks.

I have the 3GS and I have to disagree with the buffer being a device end issue. I am a BMW tech and have paired my phone to numerous vehicles and the buffer in all the other cases has been completely negligible. My wife has a Ford Edge with a 3GS and it is the same case of almost no delay on her vehicle.

On the other hand my brother has a 2010 Mazda 3 and uses a "dumbphone" with bluetooth audio and he has the same issues. So it seems to me that this is a Mazda issue, not a phone issue.

This is why I'm hoping that an aftermarket headunit with built-in bluetooth could alleviate this. Unless Mazda actually issues a bluetooth profile update themselves. This would be my preferred fix, but I'm not going to get my hopes up.

Yea I dont like to wait 5 seconds for my song to change either..I want it to change when I hit the button... But this is something that we must deal with. I'm not buying a BMW to get rid of it.

The delay is irritating. But you get what you pay for, I guess. The Bose stereo is kinda lame.
A bigger issue for me is not being able to load my contacts into the car BT thingy. Even my 5 year old Garmin Nav thingy can do that. 1 touch voice control.
Unless someone has found a way to import contacts from an iphone 4 and I missed it in the manual?
